Tartaric Acid

What is Tartaric Acid?

It’s an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that organically occurs in some fruits. Typically found in grapes but also in bananas, tamarinds and citrus. It’s a white crystalline acid that is typically added to glycolic or lactic acid to help balance out those ingredients for formulas.

What will it do?

Its main benefit it to regulate the pH level within a formula. It’s an ingredient that exfoliates the skin surface, which stimulates collagen production and gives your skin a smoother texture and natural glow.

Ingredient Tip

With any sort of AHA product you need to make sure you’re using SPF, as it makes your skin very sensitive to sunlight. Also introduce products using this ingredient slowly into your routine.
