Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract
What is Cucumber Fruit Extract
Pronounced `kjuˌkʌmbər is also known by the botanical name Cucumis Sativus, which is a member of the gourd family, that’s used in personal care products. 95% of cucumbers are made of water and provides vitamins, minerals, amino acids, phytosterols, phenolic acids, fatty acids and cucurbitacins within skincare. Main benefit comes from vitamin C (absorbic acid), beta carotene, polysaccharides and vitamin K.
What will it do?
It’s an anti-inflammatory (calms redness and irritations), an antioxidant (helps with free radicals), and hydrates the skin by creating a gel-like layer to keep moisture in. Vitamin K in cucumbers help improve the elasticity of our skin while vitamin C helps reduce fine lines.
Tip
Cucumber pH levels are very similar to human skin, so it’s been used to replace harsher chemicals when making skincare more balanced.
Less of a tip and more of a fun fact, but this ingredient is sometimes used as a fragrance in personal care products since it doesn’t irritate the skin.
