Review: Indian Healing Clay is it Really That Good?
While at Whole Foods, I snagged the famous Indian Healing Clay mask that I’ve heard so many great things about. This mask I believe is one of the most reviewed masks on Amazon, so is it hype or perfection?
First let’s get into what it’s made of: 100% bentonite clay which is extracted from volcanic ash, and can be used for treating rashes or acne. Bentonite not only has a calming effect on break outs, but it’s known for absorbing impurities from the skin by sticking to the dirt and oil. People not only use this ingredient on their face, but also as an armpit/foot detox, and it can be ingested to remove toxins. I did not ingest this mask nor use it as a deodorizer…
Fun/interesting fact: it’s the same stuff you find in cat litter because it’s amazing at absorbing moisture and clumping around that moisture.
So do I like it? Spoiler, it’s fucking amazing! The price point is very low for a whole lotta product. Because it’s so cheap, you can splurge for some Bragg’s apple cider vinegar to mix in with it instead of water. I typically use this mask when I start seeing small bumps or clogged pores. As some may know I have incredibly oily and acne prone skin, and found that this mask just instantly sucks up any congestion in the skin. When I remove this mask my pores look instantly smaller, and leaves my skin feeling smooth and soft. This has officially become a product that I will forever have in my skincare drawer.
Any downfalls? Yes, but they are tolerable. The first being, it has a pulsing effect that i’m not a fan of. It kinda made the whole masking experience a bit uncomfortable. Second is that your face gets very red after use, but calms down in about 30 minutes. Third, this mask can be quite drying, so I would recommend moisturizing right after.
What I like About it
Price.
You get a ton of product.
It pulls out any dirt/oil from my clogged pores.
Doesn’t take that long to use.
Removes the oil from my nose pores, making them less visible.
My skin looks so clean and even in tone after I use this mask.
What Don’t I like About it
You really do get a pulsing sensation from the mask, and it feels a bit weird.
When you wash the mask off, you become red.
It’s drying.
How to use
Mix clay with equal parts of raw apple cider vinegar and/or water. Use a non-metal bowl and utensil to stir the mixture together until you get a nice smooth paste. Apply 1/8 to 1/4 in to the face or other areas. Let dry. Keep the mask on for 5-10 min if you have sensitive skin. 15-20 min for normal skin. Remove the clay with warm water. Use once a week or more often for problem skin.
