Glycerin/Glycerol
What is Glycerin?
Pronounced `glisərən, also known as glycerol. Is naturally derived from animals or plants/vegetables, and can be made synthetically. It’s a clear and odorless ingredient. You normally see this ingredient within serums, moisturizers and cleansers. It mimics our skins natural moisturizing factor (NMF), which is our skins natural defense to balance hydration in our skin.
What will it do?
The way glycerin works is that it pulls water into the skin from our environment, making it an ingredient that’s great for supporting hydration. As we get older, our NMF depletes, exposing our skin to shitty things in the environment. Main function is to manage our moisture balance, especially when the seasons change. Glycerin actually has quite a bit of benefits: locks in moisture, protects us from the environment, supports other ingredients in penetrating the skin, makes your skin look younger and hydrated.
Ingredient Tip
If you’re on and airplane, and are using a product with glycerin in it, it could actually irritate your skin. Cabin air is quite dry, and the glycerin will actually start pulling moisture from your own skin instead of the environment around you. Overall, it’s a great ingredient if you have acne prone skin.
Even thought we’ve been working remotely (most of us) for almost a year, it’s still incredibly important to wear sunscreen. If your new work-from-home station is by a window, guess what, ya need sunscreen! This Supergoop sunscreen is a pretty new product in their collection, and in Supergoop fashion, they are doing some pretty fun things with formula and texture.
