Sheet Mask Review: Naruko
One of the sheet masks I picked up while in Asia was by Naruko (made in Taiwan), a tea tree and charcoal mask. Is promised to control shine, clear pores and balance sebum production. Because i’m so prone to acne flare ups (especially hormonal), I love using sheet masks to try and get ahead of the issue before any major break outs occur.
This is a black activated carbon (charcoal) mask that is only supposed to be kept on your face for 5-10 mins. Charcoal is an amazing ingredient for skincare products because it’s great for purifying. It helps with drawing out bacteria, dirt and any other particles from the surface of the skin. Tea tree is an anti-inflammatory, and is known to have antimicrobial properties.
Upon application, the serum in the mask smells pretty chemically. Not a fan of that at all. Like most sheet masks, for westerners, this didn’t cover the tip of my nose so I had to massage some of the serum into the negative space. After a few minutes the mask actually had a cooling and tingling effect, which could be nice depending on your preference. I wasn’t a fan, but if you like that sort of thing, no need to really put this one in the fridge.
After removing the mask, my face still had that cooling effecting and the product absorbed very quickly into my skin. Once dry my skin had a nice matte look to it, which I appreciate. The next few days my skin looked fantastic — even in tone and some of my blemishes reduced in size. Overall, I would recommend this mask.
What I like About it
I like that it does control the oil and shine.
My skin felt hydrated.
Face looked fresh and bright.
Does the job of reducing the appearance of blemishes.
Skin looks great after day one and two of using the sheet mask.
A great mask for helping calm skin irritations.
What Don’t I like About it
Not a fan of the cooling effect. I’m sure it’s just the tea tree but it seems chemical-like to me.
It smells like chemicals upon application.
How to use
Remove mask from packet, let sit on your face for 5-10 minutes (longer may irritate the skin). Once mask is removed, pat the extra serum into your skin and let air dry. Continue with normal skincare routine post mask.
